To me this song is about going back to a place that was once so familiar. Going back to a place that once held so many memories. Going back to a place of nostalgia. Everything that is so familiar to you that it is home.
But then again after really thinking over the lyrics, Denver is hoping to get to his home by driving through West Virginia. He says the radio reminds him of his home far away. He gets memories of his home while experiencing a different place. He gets a feeling that he should have been home yesterday. It’s crazy how a different places can evoke the same emotions as place you call ‘home’. But at the same time a place can make you long for the ‘home’ feeling.
The Place Space 
This song really describes how places other than your home can actually make you think of your home. There are many things all over that draw out emotions and memories of things that are important to people. Our homes are something that are very important to us. This could also be saying that there aren’t a whole lot of differences between your home and other places. I think the thing that differentiates peoples homes from other places is the memories surrounding that place and the people filling that place. The physical place is often very similar to many other places.

This is one of the songs that remains me about places. Memories are treasures, and they make us who we are. Places are related with memories, good or bad, happiness or lessons. When we come back to places, they remain us about the past.

Related to that song, did you ever see that anime movie from Studio Ghibli, “Whisper of the Heart”? Cause that brought me to that classic song. Boy do I love Studio Ghibli on that and this John Denver classic!! 😄😄
